Is Overwhelming Stress & Anxiety Wearing You Down?
Let’s face it, life doesn’t always take you down the path that you think it will—and it’s not always the smoothest ride. But when the idea that you’re not “measuring up” to some invisible standard begins to erode your sense of self-worth, it can create a ton of stress and anxiety that you may not know how to cope with.
The truth is, we often set up unrealistic expectations for ourselves that force us to work harder, sacrifice more, and pursue a never-ending quest for contentment. As a result, we end up spreading ourselves too thin and second-guessing decisions until the lack of confidence deprives us of the ability to appreciate what is right in front of us.
Social media, entertainment, and popular culture don’t help much either as they only reinforce the romanticized idea that a perfect life should look effortless. And because many of us were raised to believe that self-reliance determines our self-worth, we’ve been conditioned to think that if we need help, then we are somehow flawed.
However, there are so many factors that play into how people feel about themselves and how the world affects them that it can be difficult to unravel that mystery alone. But there is a way to slow down, find peace with yourself, and reconnect with those around you.
Perhaps you are struggling with dating, relationship, marital, or parenting issues and are scrambling to strike a healthy work-life balance as you juggle the roles of parent, partner, and successful professional. Or maybe you are single, entering a new phase of life, changing careers, or dealing with divorce and the uncertainty frightens you.
Stress Is An Unavoidable Part Of Life—But It Doesn’t Have To Control You
Stress and anxiety can come at you from all angles. The challenge of raising kids, caring for yourself, and deciding what you truly want out of life creates a lot of pressure that can easily swallow you up. And though you are likely successful—always pushing yourself to achieve more—it probably still seems like you’re internally disorganized and can’t keep up with everyone else.
Perhaps you’re self-sabotaging relationships or repeating patterns of unhealthy behaviors that are ultimately holding you back. Or maybe you’re simply unable to relax or focus on the present moment because you are always trying to figure out what is next on the to-do list. You would like to be calmer and more content with yourself, but overall, you just feel unhappy, stuck, and lonely.
Even if you don’t have a diagnosable anxiety disorder, the fear, self-doubt, and constant pressures of life can slowly rob you of your ability to relax and believe in yourself. Thankfully, with a little work and the right guidance, you can learn how to slow down, take stock of what you have, and enjoy the small things in life.
Stress And Anxiety Treatment Offers You Respite From The Pressures Of Life
Even if you don’t have an anxiety disorder and simply feel like something in your life is off, therapy gives you a space in which you can discover your inner strength, interests, and passion for life. It allows you to talk about your personal challenges, explore your fears, and gain the courage and confidence to make choices that feel right to you.
For some clients, the therapeutic space is the only place in which they can be themselves and lay out their feelings without being judged. In that way, therapy sets you free and empowers you with greater confidence that will help you realize and take comfort in the fact that you are indeed “good enough.”
Sometimes, the very nature of seeking anxiety counseling can be stress-inducing, so I don’t want our session to ever feel too clinical. I offer a very casual, easy-going healing experience that encourages you to express yourself in whichever way is most effective for you. Professionally, I don’t believe in set treatment plans for addressing stress and anxiety. Rather, I want to meet you where you are in your struggles, tailoring the healing process to your unique needs.
To that end, we’ll start by discussing your background and the specific reasons you have for seeking help. We may look into your upbringing, the early relationships you had, as well as significant life experiences both good and bad. We’ll explore where you are right now, events and milestones that have impacted you, as well as times in which you felt complete and adequate so you can make your way back to that place.
I provide a solution-focused, person-centered strategy for developing self-awareness, solving problems, and discovering your full potential. My sessions are very thought-provoking, focusing on understanding the motivation behind certain behaviors, thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. I also weave together several different counseling modalities and interventions to create a comprehensive management strategy for tackling stress and anxiety.
Since 2005, I have been helping both men and women take a step back from their lives, gain an alternate context for their experiences, and renew their outlook on life. I know it is tempting to take on the world by yourself, but you don’t have to be superhuman to be a super person, parent, or partner. It’s alright to be okay with simplicity because you don’t need all the other clutter in your life anyway.
Together, we’ll figure out the essence of who you are, prioritize your needs, and develop solutions and a roadmap for accomplishing your goals—without the pressure of striving for perfection.
Perhaps you’re considering stress and anxiety treatment but still have some concerns…
I’m worried about the final cost of anxiety counseling.
On the outside, so many of the things we spend our money on—expensive cars, phones, and other luxury goods—can make it seem like we are doing well on the outside. But therapy for stress relief is an investment in improving your life from the inside out. Learning more about yourself, changing patterns that no longer benefit you, and cultivating real self-acceptance can pay off in ways that you can’t imagine.
What makes your approach to stress and anxiety treatment unique?
Whether you are dealing with stress, clinical anxiety, or a general sense of being overwhelmed, my approach to therapy is not about pathologizing or labeling anyone. Rather, it’s about helping you connect the dots through curious and thought-provoking questions to reveal what is behind the stress and anxiety. Once we know that, we can actively collaborate on taking concrete steps toward pushing beyond the anxiety and changing the patterns of self-defeating thoughts that are limiting you.
I don’t think I need counseling for anxiety, but my level of stress is unbearable.
There are so many nuances to anxiety that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders simply can’t cover everything. Challenges with life transitions, decision-making, or work-life balance are things that often fall into a gray area of traditional counseling.
Fortunately, I can help clarify your career and educational aspirations as well as the options you have to achieve them. At the same time, I can help you learn how to relax, take a step back, and manage the stress that could potentially lead to anxiety down the road.
